Colby 'Chaos' Covington vs 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler
What do we have here? Thoughts! Well, a lot can be said here! Let's start with Colby being the interim champ. Is he defending his title? Of course he is, but is he actually defending the title, and are we about to see the first legitimate interim title defense? I think we should. The UFC keeps on going on and on about how real and great these interim belts are, so let the man defend his title! Colby has not been stripped of the interim title. Even though 2 title fights have happened since he won the title after beating RDA. So, is this an official interim title defense? Do you think it should be? I do - as the UFC push these interims to be so important. Make this a title defense! What is going on with Usman? Ok, sure, he is injured. He is injured, but I just feel that, again, this fight could be made a month later. (Lawler vs Covington is in August by the way). This reminds me of when the UFC fed Darren Till to Woodley. They could have just waited a month and had one of the biggest welterweight fights in years. We all missed out on a great show with that one... the buildup and fight would have been great. How long does Usman really have to recover? Why not just wait until October and let the belt be unified? Also, to Colby's defence, to my understanding he has never actually turned down a title fight or dropped out of one. He was deemed medically unfit to fight Woodley as he had nasal surgery, this was only like a month after his 5 rounder with RDA. He was rallying for the Woodley fight, and has really been pushing a title fight with Kamaru Usman. Or should I say, Marty Snoozeman, or Marty Fakenewsman? Haha, that cracks me up.... What is it that the UFC has in against Colby? Is this a management issue? Dana has openly said Colby is next. Even after he busted in on Dana suspiciously gambling... I think we remember that video! He then went out and found Dana's car! Colby IS the interim champ after all, and at least he is getting his name out there! Will Colby ever become the UFC WW Champ? There is another situation that is starting to remind me of this, and that's down at lightweight with Tony Ferguson.... Let me know your thoughts, fight fans! Note - I haven't talked about the actual match-up here, I would like to save this for the comments - Who you got and why?
